SSIS Universal Screeners
Report Guide
The SSIS SEL+MH Brief Assessment is a universal screening tool that can be taken by students, teachers, and/or parents and provides a picture of current social skill level and emotional behavior concern levels. The information in this report shows your child’s results from one administration of the assessment.
The SEL portion of the assessment includes 20 items that measure students’ social skills in five categories: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
The EBC portion of the assessment has 10 items to measure two key domains
indicative of students’ emotional behavior concerns (EBC) - internalizing behaviors and externalizing behaviors.
Together, the SSIS assessment allows teachers, school leaders, and other key stakeholders to capture a better picture of the whole student beyond academics. This will allow students to be better supported at school in a way that will improve behavioral, academic, and personal outcomes for every child.
There are 3 sections of your student’s individual report that will be described in detail in this guide.
SECTION 1: Social Skills, Stress Management Skills & Resilience Behaviors Index
The first section of the report contains the Social Skills for are shown for all available respondents (student, teacher, parent) and Stress Management Skills and Resilience Behaviors Index scores for student respondents.
The Social Skills composite score ranges from 0-60 and are grouped into performance levels of Emerging, Developing, Competent and Advanced. Higher scores indicate higher performance levels.
Composite scores for each respondent are indicated by the score in a box that is color-coded to correspond to the performance.
In the sample below, the student, their parent, and a teacher all took an assessment about the student. In the Social Skills category, scores ranged from 36-46 which all indicate a performance level of Competent.
SECTION 2: Social Skills Domain Scores
The second section of the report shows the scores for each of the 5 Social Skills competency areas which are listed and defined under the graph. Social Skills competency scores range from 0 to 12 with higher scores indicating a higher frequency of the behaviors in that area.
Scores of 8 and above in the green area of the graph indicate that the student exhibits behaviors in that area often or almost always.
Scores of 7 and below in the tan area of the graph indicate that the student could use further instruction and support in that area because they are exhibiting those behaviors less frequently.
In the sample below, the student ratings (blue bars) range from 6 to 12 with scores of 7 or less in Self-Management and Responsible Decision Making. The teacher rating (green bars) range from 6 to 8 with scores of 7 or less in Self-Awareness, Self-Management, and Relationship Skills. The parent rating (gold bars) range from 8 to 9 with no scores noted for improvement.
SECTION 3: Longitudinal Data
Note: this section is only applicable when the assessment has been given more than one time.
The third section of the report shows information about change in the Resilience Behaviors and Mental Health Indicators over time. The graphs will show all available data from each administration period.
In the example below, the student (blue lines) has taken the assessment 3 times whereas the parent (gold lines) has taken the assessment 5 times and a teacher (green line) has taken it 7 times. Over the last 3 administrations, all 3 respondent groups indicated a decrease in Social Skills skills. The results for Internalizing Emotional Behaviors Scores indicate a decrease in concern level for the student overall but scores are still in the Concern or Possible Concern range. For Externalizing Emotional Behaviors the teacher and student scores show increasing concern while the parent scores show No Concern.
